Wildlife Rehab

Owl in flight

Wildlife rehabilitation is the process of caring for injured, orphaned or sick animals and releasing them back to the wild when they are able to survive on their own. Humans are always a young wild animal’s last hope for survival, never its best hope. A young animal should only be removed from the wild after all avenues to reunite it with adult animals have been explored.

A knowledgeable licensed wildlife rehabilitator can provide the most current medical and rehabilitation techniques to insure the successful release of the animal back to the wild.

What does Layne Labs do to help rehabilitation centers?

Layne Laboratories, Inc has been a supplier to members of NWRC, AZA and hundreds of wildlife care facilities for over 15 years. Every year we donate thousands of animals to non profit zoos and wildlife caregivers.

Our mice and rats may be bred as food for reptiles, amphibians, carnivorous birds, (and sometimes even alligators!), but they are packaged to be handled by animal caregivers. We euthanize our animals quickly and humanely in a carbon dioxide chamber, tuck their legs and tails neatly underneath their body and freeze them immediately. When they are completely frozen, we bag them in resealable freezer bags and store them properly.

This process ensures that the animals never have freezer burn, are free from urine, feces, and odors, and are not stuck together in their packaging. We guarantee your staff, and your animals, will be pleased with the quality and cleanliness of our frozen feeders.

What can I do if I find an injured animal?

If you think you may have found a sick or injured animal, please contact a licensed wildlife care provider who can assess the situation and take the necessary steps to help insure the animal’s survival. Please do not try to treat a wild animal yourself. This animal deserves the care of a knowledgeable licensed wildlife rehabilitator who can provide the most current medical and rehabilitation techniques to insure the successful release of the animal back to the wild.
